The Friends of Kailua High School 5K and 10K race was held on November 11, 2007 at 7A. The race director, Ed Kemper is the original founder of this event over 10 years ago and it is a special event because the winners in all the age divisions from the previous year get to have thier names on next years race entry form. The race starts on the Enchanted lake side of Kailua High School.

The 5K race course goes 3/4 of a mile downhill out a back road making a left hand turn following the perimeter of Enchanted lake. At the first major intersection, a right hand turn is made and then the next right hand turn up a side street 400 meter hill. At the top of the hill, the course is an out and back, so you just run the same way back to Kailua High School. The 10K race course does not go up the 400m hill but instead goes to the freeway and follows the larger hill upward untill it eventually completes an out and back course.

There are plenty of free prize drawings at the race and as many oranges as you can eat. Fleet Feet Kailua was giving out discounted coupons after the race.

Ed Kemper does a good job presenting the awards after the race in a timely manner. The medals were unique and a nice reward for finishing in the top of the age division.

I have run this race every year that it has been offered and will continue to do so. It is a great event to do on the windward side of the island.
