The 1st annual Maui Central
Valley 10K was run on
Sunday morning at 7A on August 4,
2007 in Wailuaka. This race
course started at the Walmart back parking lot and ran 400 meters
to the highway taking a left on the bikepath following that for about 3
miles till the turnaround back to the start. The race runs in full view
of Haleakala and the last remaining sugar mill in the Hawaiian Islands.
Tha race director is Rudy Huber who is one of the best race directors
in Hawaii. While other islands are running the same old races, Rudy is
starting up new exciting races like this one.
The race profits benifited the Maui Human
Society. To start the race, a couple of big dogs gave a howl. The
weather was sunny and hot, just how I like it.
The awards had a dog paw on the back of
them which gave them a distictive flavor. The race t-shirts were
fabulious because Maui is known for its art canvas and even on runners
t-shirts. This is a race I would run again and a cause I fully support
to help the Human Society save animals and find them homes.
