The Surf and Turf 5K was March 24, 2007 at 7A. The weather was
beautiful and sunny. The race starts at the Officers Club at Kaneohe Marine Core (KMC) Base.
The first half mile is all down hill until a left turn
on to the golf course. For three quarters of a mile, runners run a
course on the grass with many runs and a few rolling hills until the
race course goes on the beach. For the next half mile, it is a
challenge not to run too close to the water where you may soak your
running shoes and running on firm ground. For those that do not run on
the waterline of the ocean, shoes sink into the sand about one foot.
The last three quarters of a mile runns along the golf course
till the right hand turn and 400 meters back up a 30 degree hill to the
finish line. This years race was great because the run on the beach had
the sand more compact then in previous years. This race is a gem to do
because of the uniqueness of the race course. It is a challenge and it
is fun. It is one of the best races to run at KMC Base.
After the race, bananas, oranges, PowerAid, and water
were avaliable. Awards were given out in 10 year age divisions. I had
alot of fun and will be back to run next year.
