One of the six meets of the University of Hawaii Sunset Track Series in 2008 was held today on April 12, 2008. The 6th and last meet of the series is on May 10th. Registration starts at 1:30P. The first field event starts at 2:00P with the pole vault & hammer throw, followed by the Discus throw at 2:45P, high jump at 3:00p, long jump & shot put at 4:30P and the triple jump at 5:30P. The first track ebvent is at 4:00p with the 100M hurdles. The rolling schedule of track events includes the 100M hurdles, 1500M, 100M, 400M hurdles, 2000M steeple chase, 400M, 800M, 200M and 5000M events.

The weather had near ideal racing conditions with a slight headwind on the back stretch. There was a large amount of runners participating thanks to the coaches and runners from Millilani High School. There was also a large number of University of Hawaii girls track team participating. The mens and womans HPU cross country team also did the distance events to get ready for the 2008 season. Events are free for students and $2 for everyone else per event. Three events are $5.

The University of Hawaii was refinished recently and it is a fast track. If you want a fast time, this is the track to run on. the surface is smooth and puts a bounce in your step.

The University of Hawaii Sunset Track Series is the only track events for all comers on Oahu. All rules on the track are USA track and field rules.

The University of Hawaii Sunset Track Series has existed in its current format for the past 5 years. There has never been a better reason to do more speed workouts during the week to get ready for the events.
